Introduction
Such analysis has become important especially because of globalization where one’s personality interacts with technology in ways that influence nature (Bardach et al., 2023). Moreover, technology is developed taking into consideration how people will use it. Extroversion, openness, and conscientiousness are the most influential personality dimensions to indicate preferences concerning technologies applied in Social Media up to productivity tools. On the other hand, advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning make these technologies more perceptive to personality clues making even the interaction more interactive for the users. There are no indications on their site of questions that it raises as to privacy, ethical issues, and the impact of technology on human growth and interpersonal relations.
Underlying Psychological Theory
It is in this context of personality that this personality technology relationship leans on some psychological theories to make sense of human beings’ behaviors as well as the distinctiveness between one person and another (Hoffner & Bond, 2022). Among these, one simple structure is the Big Five Personality Traits: Called the OCEAN model which consists of dimensions of Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism (Harriger et al., 2023). These give rise to a strong structure in terms of analytical theory on how personality is supposed to influence the use of technology. For example, where individuals with high levels of extroversion get drawn towards social connectivity applications that one can use to maintain social relationships, the openness to experience will get them attracted to new technologies such as virtual reality or creative suites. These traits define which technology adoption is possible or likely and how favored and used particular technologies are hence how psychological elements impact human behavior in tools digital. Other theories in the Self-Determination Theory can explain how a user may adopt technology based on the need for motive forces.
Another important psychological theory for determining behavior is the Social Cognitive Theory which focuses on observation, self efficiency, and the environment (Scott et al., 2024). Personality aspects control behavior and, simultaneously, behavior controls technology and the development of personal aspects. For example, where there is communication involving the handling of technology, social confidence may be built in a few people while social anxiety in other people is promoted by the high level of social pressure. In turn, these theories assist create numerous types of psychological requirements and fit technologies with usability and health.
Media Reports and Scholarly Sources
Newspapers especially are quick to publish articles which address how personality and behavior relate to technology in their daily lives (Landers & Marin, 2021). Often, there are articles about how Instagram or TikTok makes the personality more such or such, – for example, more extroverted or increases neuroticism due to comparison and anxiety. Other media sources also hint at the use of algorithms for content personalization of the user’s personality.
An academic source will extend the understanding of where personality meets technology by using rigorous research methodology. Research in psychology and human-computer interaction deals with the influence of personality on technology, usage, the psychological consequences of computer usage, and how technology alters personality over time (Oldham et al., 2020). This is more so given that academic sources contain key information on the imperative aspects of applying ethical standards in the use of AI for personality profiling. This then, coupled together with mainstream media accounts and academic research, presents a holistic picture, and one that offers practice-attuned insights whilst also providing a rich theoretical understanding of this interplay.
Media reports show that the role of personality in relation to technology shifts over time, it remains always in the interest of people, and usually has to do with what is in the public domain. Technology blogs and news media contain articles regarding how social networking and other gaming and digital products influence the human psyche, i.e., personality development and behavior.
PSYC FPX 4210 assessment 3 Conclusion
The dynamics of the self and technology are a matter of synergy, where they play an enormous role in determining the characteristics of actors and trends (Pellegrino et al., 2020). While personality defines how people behave with and adapt to changes in technology, the development of those personality traits is impacted by the use of technology. The next section provides a general understanding of psychological models which attempts to describe the why and what of technology usage From Big Five Personality Traits to Social Cognitive Theory. Media is more often informative regarding such phenomena and nótes how social networks, games, and AI influence personality. The present study contributes to literature with a finer-grained, empirically informed vision of the consequences in the long term and engages thoughtfully with ethical concerns raised by personalization and privacy.
