Assessment and Treatment Recommendations Worksheet
Client Name: Michael
Assessment Date: December 27, 2024
Substance Use History:
Drug | First Use: Yes or No | The pattern of use over time? | Frequency of use in the past month? | Date/Amount of most recent use? |
Xanax | No | Four to five times every day | Daily | 27/12/2024, four to five times a day |
Follow-On Question: Have These Drugs Ever Been Used in Combination?
No, my client began with one Xanax a day for anxiety since his mother was divorcing his father and he needed to pretend all was well. Nevertheless, he had no signals of the physical repercussions and was not conscious of the ramifications of the medication. However, he did not use it in conjunction with any other material on the breast cancer cells (DeRight, 2021). If he had done so the factors would have been apparent namely: slowing down of heart rates and drowsiness leading to slow breathing. As it is stated, none of the consequences has been felt by him as of date. Therefore, it is correct to presuppose that he had never mixed Xanax with alcohol or with any other opioid drug. However, Michael has been taking quite a high dose of Xanax and has also been distributing same to his friends.
Physical Consequences
Michael doesn’t have any physically sadly symbolic effect. He stated they were not aware of the side effects of Xanax on the physical system. He said he is taking daily 4 to 5 tablets. But he has not realized his physical implications and also has displayed no impact.
Psychological Consequences
From the case study, it is shown that Michael’s parents are always fighting and it is very thorny for Michael. It also proves that Michael does not give a hoot about them at all. His parents have always been violent and they are still oblivious to Michael’s substance use behavior. He was very disturbed due to his parents, and it shows that he does not feel shy if his parents get to know about his substance use. The man’s parent is very religious also, Michael does not like this because he is gay.
Medical Concerns
Michael usually takes Xanax four to five times daily It has side effects like making him have swear problems and some of the side effects that are related to Michael include; headache, increased aggression, blurred vision, and insomnia. An example of a young man who collapsed emissions after choking what he only presumed to be pulverized Xanax. Naloxone was given, and he received rehabilitation for the altered inner condition and respiratory failure. Clinicians believed that opioid toxins; however, the case continues to deny an opioid intake. (Sartori et al., 2019). The use of the drug can lead to dangerous effects as recorded and outlined here below.
- The effects of the drug comprise dizziness, weak orientation leading to fainting, and impaired cognition, therefore the candidate cannot focus on any of the tasks at hand with serious implications.
- In the case of the intake of the drug, its effect on the liver is immediate and includes abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. This creates a greater level of enzymes in the liver and this also leads to jaundice which leads to further deterioration of the health status of the liver.
- The kind that puts high impulse on the body and one may find him jerking and flopping all over. But as far as Michael is concerned he has not known that there are physical side effects of the drug which he has not felt yet. But increase in the intake can cause the development of seizures in the individual.
Past Treatment History
In Michael’s previous medical records, it has been observed that Michael has no records of substance abuse. After the family was stressed, he went to the doctor where the doctor put him on Xanax. As a result past present use of a substance or any other addiction was present in his case. However, the current point of view presents his dependency on Xanax. He has been using the drug in large quantities consequently his predisposition to the severe side effects of the medicine. His psychology resides in defining the perspective as he is gay and the parents’ acceptance of that is what he wants.
Environmental Factors
Residential
As for Michael’s parents, they are already divorced because of a divorce. Michael goes to his mother’s house at the moment and his father comes to visit him every other weekend. But, tension exists and very well may be intermingled with new strategies, the state of living is quite tolerable. Both his parents drink but none of them has been on the wrong side of the bottle. However, it is possible to consider that the common substance abuse case can be regarded from this point of view. His brother has been using weed for its utilization. Finally since birds of the same feather flock together he has been found wanting in substance abuse of Xanax. Hence, he examined his brother or indeed followed the footsteps of his brother.
Social Support System
Michael’s friends also use Xanax and they abuse it by taking it together. At no point are they going to support Michael. However, it can be also mentioned how his friend has been promoting the usage of excessive amounts of Xanax. He has been cheating his doctor so that he can get more and more of the invention to feed his friends and the substance in question is a drug. At the same time, the parents censored the situation of Michael from them. He was addicted. They are also not supportive. It is still more subsumed in the aspect that if their parents had accepted their condition and their sexuality more, they may not have become addicts. His brother has also used weed which may indicate poor parenting hence the implication of saying how Michael has been a part of the problem parenting.
Family and Family History
Family History Of Use
As Michael once mentioned, his parents drink, however, they are not big drinkers. His elder brother was also dismissed from school on grounds of trafficking in weed. Lum asked me if they had any history of drug use and, besides the elder brother, they said they did not. The case much resembles that of a white boy desperate for attention from his parent during the family’s. The negative impact is seen and he has fallen towards the addiction.
Family Mental Health History
Michael’s mother also has a boyfriend now and she goes for treatment for depression after the divorce. Many other mental issues are not present in the family. This current state of her mother also is due to the environmental factors putting stress on her else there is no family history present to affect Michael.
Current Additional Status to Consider
Educational Status
He is a middle school student, and he is 14 years old as of right now. He is hoping to attend high school next year. Due to his engagement with the school and his friend, it does not portray that he has lost sleep over his education.
Financial Status
I have not discussed financial problems with Michael and he is still too young to have a job.
Legal Status
There are no legal matters concerning Michael in the present as well as in the past.
Motivation for Treatment
Michael has a substance use issue, and he’s not willing to leave it behind. He is not at the moment worried about his problems and he is not at the moment seeking treatment for them. He probably visits a doctor because of his parents’ divorce or their separation regardless of which end of the process the child is on. Michael believes he has a problem and in fact, the man has a medicine abuse problem. He is also not ready for treatment as well. He believes that it’s fine to purchase Xanax capsules as he is fine with them.
Recommended Assessment Measures
I suggest the abuse screening where they determine the degree of substance dependency. Also, it was good to know Michael’s thinking, and how things get helpful for him to ascertain the real reason behind his substance use. In all substance use complaints, routine lab-order-based testing principally serves the binary aim of checking adherence with the listed drug and avoidance of medically warranted substances (i.e., medication abuse testing). The top specimen to test is the urine but to collect urine is not without some loss and disadvantages. This design exhaled breath and oral fluid as essential components in medicine abuse netting in circumstances of substance use (Arvidsson, et al. 2018).
With NIDA’s help, we can evaluate the usage of marijuana, heroin, cocaine, or not a capsule mentioned by the doctor, like Xanax, Valium, or oxycodone. We coded each medicine individually and then made a count variable for polysubstance analysis.
Clinical Assessment
Later versions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) have progressively enclosed the role of aesthetics context for the perception of inner disease. However, these same variations also entail changes in one’s criteria that in the present day detach particular diseases like Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Literature reviews indicate that the use of PDMP reduces a lot of risks involved in the treatment of people with possible substance use diseases. This model of the DSM-5 and ICD-10 integrates individual, cerebral, and experimental frameworks to align certain behaviors to specific neural proclivities (Liese et al., 2020).
Treatment Recommendations
This is why I think Michael must learn about his condition. He needs help to get out of that. Medicine consumption utilizes a medicine’s pharmacological goods that are perdurable and are regarded as satisfactory, and is narrated by inheritable, experimental, and psychosocial factors that mediate in the supply, ethic, and social support system of medicine (Lesko et al., 2021). Michael needs love from his parents. He will agree to get treatment when they motivate and show love to Michael. His parents need some more effort to overcome Xanax addiction.
Ethical Consideration
The ethical issues in health can be either epistemological, concerning deceived or vague evidence or related to affiliation; normative, connected with illegal subjects and transformative efficacy; or concerning traceability (Chapman et al., 2019). This means that Michael’s information should not be communicated with anyone be it a friend, family member, or anybody else. This case can be disclosed to his parents because Michael is too young to handle it. From an ethical perspective, the changes in internal medicine involve new forms of treatment, better responses to treatment, and most importantly time with doctors (Fiske et al., 2019).
PSYC FPX 4300 assessment 3 Conclusion
Therefore, tolerates that Michael is a 14-year-old kid struggling with addiction and substance use problems. Taking 4-5 tablets of Xanax every day he feels relaxed after them. Michael was raised in a single-parent family because his parents are divorced, and he stays with his mother. They do not feed him, bathe him, or even dress well like the rest of the human beings. He requires treatment to have this substance use issue washed out and receive therapy.
